久々の投稿です。ついに来月10月15日に２冊目の単行本がでます！準備期間から長かった…！

かなり前から企画自体はあったのですが、本の方向性がなかなか定まらず、またプライベートのごちゃごちゃもあって、苦戦しておりましたが、このご時世に紙の本が出版できるというのは本当にありがたいことです

タイトルは『世界イケオジ・イケオバ紀行』Amazonでも予約が始まっております。

この本は自費出版の同人誌というかZINEを元にしたもので、旅行中にお見かけしたイケてるおじさん、おばさん達や、その時のエピソードをコミックエッセイとして描いたものになります。特に現在も連絡をとっているロンドンBrick Laneで路上チェスをする通称「チェスマスター」には大変お世話になり、ネーム中も何回もやりとりさせていただき彼にも頭が上がりません…。苦戦している時に彼から連絡をもらって本当に励まされたこともありました。彼とのエピソードやインタビューは、この本を全体をひとまとめに締めくくってくれるものになりました。

もともとの本はリソグラフ印刷でざらざらの紙に刷っており、１ページづつインクを変えるなど、手触りや手作り感を重視したこだわりの本でしたが、それを踏襲していただくことになり、単行本も全ページ2色刷りです。リソグラフ印刷で商業ルートに乗せる事はむずかしかったのですが、色にこだわったことでZINEを作った時の手書きのスケッチのテイストはちゃんと再現されたと思います！

長らくヨーロッパにも行けておらず、寂しい気持ちになることもありますが、ある意味でこの本は旅行者としての自分にさよならを言って、日本で地に足をつけた生活をするための心の整理になったとも感じています。旅行者と生活者という二つの自分を行き来しつつ、イケオジ、イケオバを通して自分がいかに歳をとっていけば良いのか、この本を通して考えることができました。

Older Men and Women Around the World

It’s been a while since my last post. It’s been a relentless, chaotic run since September 2025—hardly a moment to catch my breath—but my second book is finally coming out next month, on October 15th! It’s been a long way..

The project had been in the works for quite long time, but I struggled to pin down the book's direction amidst some personal turmoil. Still, I am truly grateful to be able to publish a physical book in this (pricy) day and age .

The title is Older Men and Women Around the World (Sekai Ike-oji/Ike-oba Kikō), and pre-orders are already open on Amazon.

This book is based on a self-published zine and features comic essays about the stylish older men and women I encountered during my travels, along with the stories behind those meetings. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the man known as "Chess Master"—a street chess player from Brick Lane, London, with whom I’m still in touch. We exchanged messages frequently while I was drafting the book, and I can't thank him enough; there were times when his messages really lifted my spirits while I was struggling. The episodes and interviews involving him ended up serving as the perfect conclusion to the book as a whole.

The original zine was Risograph-printed on textured paper, with ink colors changing page by page—a labor of love that prioritized tactile quality and a handmade feel. We’ve carried that spirit over to the new book, which is printed in two colors on every page. While it was difficult to bring Risograph printing into the commercial market, I believe the focus on color successfully recreated the hand-drawn sketch aesthetic of the original zine!

I haven't been able to visit Europe for a long time, and I do feel a sense of longing, but in a way, I also feel that this book helped me sort out my feelings—allowing me to say goodbye to my identity as a traveler and embrace a grounded life here in Japan. As I navigate the dual identities of traveler and resident, this book gave me the chance to reflect on how I want to age, inspired by the stylish older men and women featured within its pages.
